Initiate a Clinical Trial

The Clinical Trials Department provides a link between pharmaceutical companies and the military medical community, managing Phase I–IV single- and multi-site clinical trials. HJF expedites collaborations between private research sponsors and military researchers. We manage both small- and large-scale trials, some with more than 100 sponsors.

There are two general types of clinical trials:

Sponsor-Initiated Trials

A field representative of a medical company contacts you to conduct a clinical study. When this occurs, you, the sponsor or the Department of Clinical Investigations at your hospital should contact the Clinical Trials Department to begin the process of completing the regulatory, legal and practical aspects of the trial.

Companies that are undertaking pre-site selection contact HJF. We regularly receive abstracts of proposed protocols from potential sponsors gauging the level of investigator interest in a proposed study. When this occurs, HJF contacts the Department of Clinical Investigations at each of the military medical centers.

Investigator-Initiated Trials

You are interested in pursuing your own research and need to find a funding source in order to conduct the trial. In this case, the Clinical Trials Department will assist you with finding a sponsor for the project.
