Cash and Non-Cash Awards
To process an award, submit a completed Award Request form (HJF #230) to Human Resources. The type of award should be indicated (certificate, cash award or certificate and cash award).
For a cash award, the amount in which the award can be disbursed can either be the net or gross amount the employee will receive. Cash awards cannot exceed 10% of the employee's base salary. For example, if a gross cash award of $500 is selected, that amount will be taxed, and the employee will receive a check for the amount less the taxes. If a net award is selected, the employee would receive a check for $500 and the gross will have to be determined based on employee's award gross amount being higher than $500, and the taxes being taken out to have the employee receive the $500 net amount.
Additional laudation is required for certificates of appreciation and commendation. This is not required for certificates of superior performance.
The employee's supervisor and department chair should sign the Award Request form before it is submitted to Human Resources for processing. HR will coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs or Contracting Department to determine allowability, as well as availability of funds.
