Center for Liver Disease

Hepatitis C kills 8,000-10,000 Americans each year, and there is currently no effective vaccine to prevent it.

Hepatitis C can slowly progress to cirrhosis, liver cancer or liver failure, and, in some cases, requires intensive clinical care or transplantation. The Center for Liver Disease at Walter Reed Army Medical Center (WRAMC) provides exceptional evaluation and clinical treatment of patients with hepatitis C and other chronic liver diseases.

Although there are new treatments for hepatitis C, more than 50% of treated patients do not respond to therapy, which can be long and costly. Researchers at the WRAMC liver clinic integrate clinical and laboratory research to identify correlates for patients who do not respond to treatment. This information can be used to develop more effective therapeutic programs for these patients with chronic hepatitis C.

As it has for many programs, HJF helped manage the renovation of the clinical space, making it more convenient and comfortable for patients
