Military & Civilian Medicine: Joining Forces to Advance Research
Monday, June 30, 2008
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU) are teaming up to host an invitation-only symposium on how vital advances achieved by military medicine improve the care and treatment of our nation’s soldiers, as well as its civilians. More than 200 representatives of military medicine, other federal and civilian academic medicine, private industry, public policy, non-profit funding organizations and the media will convene on June 30, 2008 to hear military medicine experts speak about four key research areas:
- Trauma/Combat Casualty
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder/Traumatic Brain Injury
- Infectious Diseases
- Cancer
Military Medicine – A National Resource
Military medical research is one of the nation’s most important resources for healthcare discovery and treatment. Most Americans are unaware that advances in military medicine extend beyond the battlefield and enhance civilian healthcare as well. Even fewer understand how healthcare is improved worldwide when civilian and military researchers unite.
A major goal of the symposium is to increase and enhance the military and civilian research collaborations that are so critical to improving healthcare for all.
