Heroes Honored in 10th Year of Awards

Since 2011, HJF has recognized individuals who have made outstanding contributions in military medicine for our nation’s warfighters, veterans and civilians. Each year they are honored at the Heroes of Military Medicine (HMM) Awards Dinner. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, HJF had to cancel the 10th anniversary of the HMM Awards Dinner.

While HJF was unable to recognize these individuals in person, we proudly honored the following 2020 Heroes of Military Medicine Award Honorees:

The Hero of Military Medicine Ambassador Award is presented to the Joint Trauma System, Defense Health Agency, whose mission is to improve trauma readiness and outcomes through evidence-driven performance improvement.

The Hero of Military Medicine Senior Leader Honoree is General Steve R. Lyons, Commander, United States Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, one of 11 Combatant Commands under the Department of Defense.

The Heroes of Military Medicine Honorees included:

The Chairman Sponsor for the 2020 Heroes of Military Medicine dinner was Health Net Federal Services. The generous donations by sponsors of the HMM Awards Dinner are used to support HJF’s mission to advance military medicine. The donations could also be used to support research initiatives in a variety of ways, which may include fighting the COVID-19 pandemic by improving diagnostics, developing vaccines, identifying life-saving therapeutics and leading clinical trials.

More information about each award recipient can be found on our Heroes of Military Medicine Award page.
