Dr. Samuel D. Hobbs is a vitreoretinal surgeon and ophthalmologist currently serving as a Major in the United States Air Force. His path to medicine began in nursing, a foundation that instilled a deep, lasting commitment to patient-centered care. Today, he serves as the Medical Director for Ophthalmology and Chief of Vitreoretinal Services, focusing on preserving and restoring vision for service members and their families.

Beyond his daily clinical practice, Dr. Hobbs is passionate about expanding access to healthcare. He has been privileged to participate in medical missions to Guyana and Panama, working alongside local communities to deliver essential eye treatments. He also maintains an interest in the intersection of medicine and technology, collaborating on the development of AI-assisted diagnostic tools for ophthalmic imaging.

Outside of the hospital, his primary focus is his family, sharing his life with his wife, Kiley, their four children, and an Italian Greyhound puppy named Suki. When time allows, he finds balance by playing classical pieces on the viola. Dr. Hobbs is deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve and is incredibly humbled to be recognized among the 2026 Heroes of Military Medicine.

Dr. Reeves is a quadruple board-certified General Pediatrician, Obesity Medicine specialist, Clinical Informatics physician, and Pediatric Gastroenterologist with expertise in caring for children with medical complexity, including those requiring tube feeding and management of rare gastrointestinal disorders.

He serves as an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and as an Associate Professor of Military Medicine at Texas A&M University Health Science Center.

Over the past decade, his work has focused on the intersection of patient education and the care of children and young adults with complex medical needs. In his off-duty time, he creates medical software and pioneered a new mobile health technology, called Clinical Action Plans, which provide automated clinical decision support to medical teams and serve as low health literacy care plans for the home management of chronic needs.

Commander Stacy Coulthard was born and raised in Radford, Virginia. She received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech, Master of Science from Virginia Commonwealth University, and Doctor of Medicine from Eastern Virginia Medical School. She was commissioned in the United States Navy through the Health Professions Scholarship Program in 2008 and completed her Internal Medicine residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP).

She became board certified in Internal Medicine in August 2011 and was stationed at Naval Medical Center Camp Lejeune, NC. In 2012, she was selected to serve the United States Congress at the Office of the Attending Physician(OAP), Washington, DC. She completed her assignment at the US Capitol in May 2015, at which time she chose to broaden her skills and pursue training in General Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

After completing surgical residency in June 2020, she returned to Virginia as the surgeon assigned to Fleet Surgical Team TWO (FST-2) at Naval Station Norfolk. With FST-2, she embarked with the USS Arlington (LPD 24) during Joint Task Force HAITI humanitarian assistance efforts and deployed with the USS Kearsarge (LHD 3) for the 2022 ARG/MEU to Arctic and Baltic regions. She was then assigned to the 2nd Medical Battalion, Bravo Company in Portsmouth, VA. During this assignment, she was the Associate Program Director for the General Surgery residency program and Site Director for USU surgery clerkships at NMCP. She then completed her fellowship in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania in 2025, after which she was assigned to Naval Medical Research Unit San Antonio as the Deputy Director of Combat Casualty Care and Operational Medicine.

Commander Coulthard is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Surgery at the Uniformed Services University and is clinical faculty at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. She maintains boardcertifications in Surgical Critical Care, General Surgery, and Internal Medicine. She is actively involved at the national level with the Society of Critical Care Medicine through the Resource Limited Committee for Fundamentals of Critical Care Support
