Team Wins Excellence in Construction Award for Auditorium

United States

A premier trade association in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., construction industry presented HJF, Patner Construction, Inc., and EwingCole with the Excellence in Construction Award on Sept. 20, 2023, for its construction of the auditorium located at the Home Office of 6720A Rockledge Drive, Bethesda, Maryland. The Metro Washington and Virginia Chapters of Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) gave the Excellence in Construction Award for the Institution Category to HJF, as well as the general contractor Patner Construction, and architect EwingCole, at the awards celebration dinner at the Tysons Corner Ritz Carlton.

“This Excellence in Construction Award represents the culmination of years of preparation and planning to achieve a high-tech auditorium,” said HJF President and CEO Joseph Caravalho, Jr. “The facility, which opened in 2022, offers our partner, Uniformed Services University (USU), as well as other military medical organizations, a state-of-the-art hybrid classroom setting for highly collaborative meetings.”

“Construction of the auditorium was a high-priority and huge project for HJF,” said David Gabeau, HJF Senior Manager Leasing and Renovations in charge of the project that was funded through a USU award. “The project expanded the existing building by 4,000 square feet to support this new collaborative space.”

The Excellence in Construction Awards Program recognizes and celebrates outstanding projects built by Washington-area ABC members annually. The awards competition serves to raise the level of construction standards throughout the industry by recognizing the workmanship of those who contribute and by showcasing the results of their dedication. Teamwork and cooperation between general contractors, specialty contractors, and material suppliers are prerequisites for building excellence into any construction project.
